New Alumni Association Site Up
From the VMI Web Site:
The VMI Alumni Agencies has unveiled a new Web site with features that allow alumni to stay connected with their Brother Rats, classmates, friends, and the Institute.
The VMI RANKS (www.vmialumni.org) is a revised Web site that functions as the central point for an online directory of alumni, profile updates, affinity E-mail at vmialumni.org, class notes, a VMI job board for alumni, and opportunities to meet other alumni.
The site offers alumni an opportunity to search for friends by name, location or class year. VMI RANKS allows alumni to sign up for an account and gain the benefits of a secure Web site to share information or update their individual record. Alumni can even add personal photos to their record for others to see when they look up Brother Rats. As a service to alumni, the site offers a sign-up for an E-mail address that ends with vmialumni.org. The alumnus can direct a work or other E-mail address to that affinity address so that whether the work or home address changes they still receive E-mail.
Currently the site offers a discussion board, and will post information from alumni who have served in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Alumni veterans of these operations are asked to share their experience and the heritage of citizen-soldiers. There is also a section where alumni can share updates that are searchable by class. The job board allows registered alumni to post employment opportunities for alumni or search for a position by state or position title. The site provides access to news service from major search engines that collects stories about the Virginia Military Institute and its graduates.
Each of these services is offered at no charge to alumni and requires a one-time registration to validate the alumni record. In future improvements to the site reservations for events on and off post will be made available through a secure and encrypted Web function.
The Alumni Agencies, consisting of the VMI Alumni Association, the VMI Foundation and the VMI Keydet Club, are all represented in the VMI RANKS site. The current information posted to other areas of the web will remain intact until such time as those elements consolidate or change.
